Regardless of where you live, flooding can cause major damage to your home and contents.
Whether damage is the result of an overflowing river, actions of the sea or a burst water pipe, it’s important to understand the different types of floods and other water-related events and how they’re covered under your insurance policy.
Flood is a listed event
From 9 January 2012 all new SGIO Home and Landlord Insurance policies include cover for loss or damage caused by flood, in addition to storm and water leaks. This gives you peace of mind knowing that you’re covered for different types of water damage.
Already an existing Home or Landlord Insurance customer?
If you have an existing Home or Landlord policy with SGIO Insurance and it’s not due for renewal yet, you can choose to add flood cover to your current policy.

What is a flood
SGIO Insurance defines a flood as:

Rain which results in water pooling on, flowing from or failing to drain away from:
- a body of water
- land
- roads and streets

Water that escapes or is released from a body of water.
A body of water can include a river, lake, dam, stormwater channel or canal, but not the sea.
